Michael Sutphin

Blacksburg

Michael Sutphin is a member of the Blacksburg Town Council. In college, he served as a news editor and reporter for the Collegiate Times and as president of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender Alliance at Virginia Tech. As a student, he earned two Virginia Press Association awards and the Charlotte Davis Media Service Award, the university’s highest student journalism accolade. Michael graduated with a bachelor’s degree in communication in 2006.

He is now the public relations coordinator for the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine. Prior to that, he was a writer for Virginia Tech’s College of Agriculture and Life Sciences for five years.

Michael was elected to the Blacksburg Town Council in November 2011. He serves on numerous boards and committees, including the Blacksburg Housing and Community Development Advisory Board and the Metropolitan Planning Organization Board.
