EV Announces Objectives for 2011 General Assembly Session:

  • State Policy Against Discrimination: EV will support legislation to amend state law to make it against the public policy of the commonwealth to discriminate based on sexual orientation and gender identity.
  • Nondiscrimination In Public Employment: EV will support legislation to amend state law to protect all employees of state or local government from discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity.
  • Equal Access To Employee Benefits: EV will support legislation to authorize state and local government agencies to provide benefits to all employees regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity.
  • Anti-Bullying Laws And Policies: EV will support legislation designed to enhance the ability of parents, education officials, and law enforcement to identify, prevent, and respond to incidents of bullying, harrassment, and intimidation in public schools and state colleges and universities.

As in past legislative sessions, in addition to supporting positive legislation, EV will actively oppose any legislation adversely affecting the rights or quality of life of gay, lesbian, bisexual, or transgender Virginians and their families.

To be successful in gaining passage of this positive legislation in 2011, we need you to take action now! Register for Lobby Day and contact your state delegate and senator. Find out who to contact here.
