Legends Individual Award Recipient: Bill Griggs

Bill Griggs has been involved with LGBT organizations for more than two decades.   Bill’s life of living through example has a very positive impact on the LGBT community in Hampton Roads.  His work through various arts organizations, including 27 years with WHRO and as Executive Director of Young Audiences of Virginia, teaches and supports tolerance, acceptance and understanding.  When the AIDS epidemic hit Hampton Roads, Bill stepped forward, volunteered his time, talent and money to those adversely affected by the disease.   Living as an openly gay man in our community, Bill has built awareness and confidence in the importance of the LGBT community.  Bill has always dared to step forward and speak with politicians about the importance of equal rights for all citizens.  His involvement with the LGBT community involves membership and volunteering for organizations such as ACCESS AIDS Care, The AIDS Network (TACT), founding member of Hampton Roads Business OUTReach (HRBOR), and more.

Legends Community Award Recipient: St Andrews Episcopal Church

Proudly accepting the EV Legends Community Award, lead by Reverend John D. Rohrs is St. Andrews Episcopal Church of Norfolk, VA.   St. Andrew’s has impacted many areas, especially education, social justice, regionalism, health and public safety.   Education regarding HIV/Aids started over 20 years ago and continues at St. Andrews today.   In 2003, St. Andrews received of the Georgine C. Steinbruck volunteer award, “in recognition of outstanding support, service, and caring to the Full Circle AIDS Hospice Support.”
