Congressman Moran is serving his 12th term as a Representative from Virginia’s 8th District and is a senior member of the Appropriations Committee, serves on the subcommittee on the Interior and Environment, and on Defense and Military Construction subcommittees. He receives some of the highest ratings from the conservation, animal rights, gun control, and human rights organizations. Congressman Moran has been a long- standing out ally of the LGBT community, dating back to his efforts as Mayor of Alexandria to prohibit discrimination of city employees. He is a founding member of the LGBT Equality Caucus and opposed the Defense of Marriage Act in 1996. He co-sponsored the Employment non-discrimination Act that passed the House in 2007, supported the passage of the Matthew Shepard and James Byrd Jr. Hate Crimes Prevention Act of 2009, as well as the Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell Repeal Act of 2010.
