My name is Nikki. I work for Help and Emergency Response (HER). I am a mother of two, and my children and I are very active in lobbying for nonpartisan groups. I want them to be aware of the local, state, national, and international decisions that affect them. I am also planning to run for State Senator in 2023. Because I am always working to make this world better, I am an ally to transgender people. Most simply, I want to help the world be as open and accepting as possible. I want my kids to grow up knowing that, no matter who they are, they will have the same opportunities as everyone else. Without protections for transgender people in Virginia, this isn’t a guarantee.

My heart is with those who are the most vulnerable. I work with people who are unhoused and I have seen how a lack of housing puts people at a disadvantage. Transgender people have as much of a right to the feeling of safety that comes with a home as anyone else. And as a black woman, I see the parallels between this effort and past efforts for equal protections under the law. Transgender people should have the right to be hired based on their skills and merits. No one should be denied services because of their gender or gender expression. I want Virginia to provide for equal opportunities for everyone with nondiscrimination protections in housing, employment, and public accommodations.
